Franklin Barker West Memorial Endowed/Annual Scholarship

The Franklin Barker West Memorial Endowed Scholarship is made possible through the generous donations of friends and family of Franklin Barker West. In the fall of 2012, a wide-eyed, enthusiastic young man entered his first year at College of Charleston, ready to tackle any obstacle ahead of him. With great vigor and hard work, Franklin Barker West (Barker, as he preferred to be called) immersed himself into the culture at the College. Always with a smile, he sought out any friendly relationship he could make. The bonds he had with those close to him, specifically with his brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha, were undeniably permanent.

Barker had a special impact on whomever he came across. His hard work, charisma, and loyalty were of the highest order. His life was cut short at the age of 18 in a car accident in September 2013. Barker’s untimely death sent shockwaves throughout the community, particularly his close knit fraternity. There was simply no replacing the caring and steadfast devotion he had to his friends, family, and anything he set his mind toward.

Eligible applicants include: Undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need; GPA 3.0 or better. Preference is given to students who demonstrate interest in international studies through coursework or volunteer work or for students who demonstrate leadership skills.
