B.A. Hagood-SCE&G Company Scholarship

This scholarship has preference for sons/daughters of employees of SCE&G in the tri-county area.

Benjamin Adger Hagood was a former lawyer and assistant to the United States District Attorney, who later became the first president of the South Carolina Power Company. When he died in 1928, he turned over to the company a $500 bond to create an emergency relief fund for its employees. However, with the establishment of credit unions and easy availability of loans from financial institutions, the Hagood Relief Fund was no longer needed. Upon its dissolution, the monies were turned over to the College of Charleston to establish the B.A. Hagood – South Carolina Electric and Gas Company Scholarship.
