Dr. Andrew and Josephine Lewis Endowed/Annual Scholarship
Scholarship is for a student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Applications for the scholarship must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation. First preference will be given to an African American undergraduate majoring in Physical Education with concentration in Teacher education. 2nd preference will be given to an African American undergraduate majoring within the Department of Health and Human Performance. 3rd preference will be given to any undergraduate student with a major within the Department of Health and Human Performance.
Dr. Andrew H. Lewis is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the School of Education, Health and Human Performance’s (EHHP) Department of Health and Human Performance (HEHP). Dr. Lewis’ educational degrees include a Bachelor of Science from Albany State University, Albany, GA, a Master’s of Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The Ohio State University, Columbus. Dr. Lewis has taught and coached at all levels; elementary, high school and college. Dr. Lewis’s primary area of interest is Sport Pedagogy and he feels that fostering the growth of future professionals is one of his most important contributions to the profession. During his 34 year tenure at the College of Charleston he has served in the following administrative positions: Department Chair (HEHP) for eleven years, Interim Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Associate Dean for the School of EHHP, and currently as Director of Professional Development in Education.
Josephine briefly attended the College of Charleston as a part-time student, is employed with the Scientific Research Corporation, has past experience as a Medical Coder, and loved her volunteer work with several organizations.
Dr. Lewis and Josephine McCloud Lewis of Winter Haven, Florida have three children; Andrew Jr. (Major, Senior Requirements Analyst at National Guard Bureau US Army), Adrian (5th grade science / math teacher at Joseph W Grier Academy, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools), and Alexis (Dr. Alexis L. Stroman, Pulmonary Physician William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia, SC).
