Father Scott J. A. Buchanan Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Practicing Catholic and an active participant in the Catholic Campus Ministry. 3.0 GPA. Financial need is a preference, as is History of Philosophy major.

Buchanan was a devoted scholar, historian, and priest. At the College of Charleston, he was a history major and recipient of the Young Alumnus of the Year Award. Father Buchanan attended St. Charles Seminary and completed his training in Rome, Italy with a degree in Sacred Theology and licentiate in Church History, while at the Pontifical North American College. He was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston on July 12, 1997. Father Buchanan’s assignments after ordination were Nativity Catholic Church, James Island, St. Anthony’s in Florence, St. Louis in Dillon, The Church of the Infant Jesus in Marion, St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Holly Hill, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Summerton. He continued his passion for history as he served as the Historian for the Diocese. Father Buchanan was also instrumental in the creation of a new parish in Manning, South Carolina and relocation of St. Anne’s to Santee, South Carolina.
