This scholarship honors the late Richard Anthony Kalata who graduated from the College of Charleston in 2016 with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM). Following his graduation, Richard matriculated to a competitive hospitality internship with Disney in Orlando, FL. Richard’s time spent on campus was made meaningful through his educational experiences outside of the classroom including study abroad, internships, faculty connections and friendships made through the HTM program. Richard was known in the department for his adventurous and friendly personality – always excited to explore, whether around the corner or across the globe. Through the establishment of this memorial travel scholarship, the Kalata family aims to support students who, like Richard, are motivated to explore and engage broader hospitality sectors around the world. The memorial scholarship will help to provide these future students access to enhanced HTM oriented study abroad experiences.
