Howard B. Sherman Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship fund is established in loving memory of Howard B. Sherman by his widow Leigh Sherman. After graduating from Florida State University in 1977, Howard Sherman joined his father in the Sherman Agency, a business venture involving real estate, bonds and insurance. Upon the passing of his father in 2013, Howard became president of the Sherman Agency and enjoyed working for the family business for over 45 years. Howard was an extraordinary businessman whose accomplishments had a generational impact on individuals and families. He was a man of faith and a lifelong member of Synagogue Emanuel. He was an entrepreneur, philanthropist and pillar of the community. He was an active member of the Florida State Seminole Club, Chairman of the Sherman Foundation, and Chairman of the Henry and Sylvia residential Yaschik Foundation. He was also a long-time board member of the Sherman House, a facility for low-income seniors located in West Ashley.

The purpose of this gift is to provide scholarships for full-time CofC students who demonstrate engagement with the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program either through coursework or participation in CofC Hillel Jewish Student Life programming. The scholarship may be renewed so long as the recipient continues to meet the criteria outlined above.
