Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) Travel Scholarship

The College of Charleston Global Logistics and Transportation (GLAT) program has a long history of coupling academic study with industry exploration and alumni connection. From its inception in 1987, the program has focused on preparing students for careers in the intermodal transportation and global logistics industries through its minor and concentration curriculum tracks.

The GLAT Program is very fortunate to be counted among the seven university beneficiaries of the IANA Scholarship Award Program. IANA’s past support has recognized students who show ambition and promise for the freight and transportation industries with travel scholarships and upper-class excellence scholarships.

The GLAT Program offers a Rotterdam travel study that is a mandatory component of the final capstone course. Students tour and receive presentations at the port facilities of Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Zeebrugge (Belgium) as well as unique logistics facilities like Flora Holland (the largest flower auction in the world) and Euro Frigo (a sophisticated refrigerated warehouse). The summer class is built around a visit to Panama where the students study the operations of the canal and the impact of its expansion on that nation’s emerging role as a distribution hub for Central and South America. There may also be an additional trip added in the coming year to a new international location. This support will be used to offset travel study tuition by awarding up to 10 IANA scholarships on an annual basis to deserving students enrolled in one of the courses that includes an international travel component. Recipients will be Global Logistics and Transportation (GLAT) minors or Supply Chain majors.
