Johnson-Vest Scholarship

The Johnson-Vest Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in Classical Studies (primarily Latin and Greek) who demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students considering an advanced degree or career that would include the teaching of Latin or Greek or the love of those particular cultures. Students who are considering an advanced degree or career that significantly incorporates classical studies into its regimen and practice will also be given consideration.

This scholarship was created by Lucia Johnson Vest and Edward Nelson Vest to honor the parents of Lucia Vest — Irene Ebert Johnson and George Arthur Ziozias Johnson — who instilled in their children a love of Greek and Roman culture. By establishing this scholarship, Lucia Vest sought to encourage young students to study Latin and Greek.

This scholarship is renewable provided that the student:
1. Maintains a 3.0 GPA cumulative
2. Maintains a 3.0 GPA in the major
3. Remains a classics major.
