Edgar T. Cato Scholarship Fund

This scholarship assists full-time undergraduate students who have financial need, pursue courses of study leading to an accredited degree, and live in communities in which The Cato Corporation has a market presence. Preference is shown to students who worked for pay after school or during the summer(s) prior to their enrollment at the College or who are working for pay at the present time. Preference is also shown to students who have worked without pay in some form of community service during their high school years or at the present time.

This scholarship was established by The Cato Corporation in honor of Edgar T. Cato. Edgar, along with father Wayland H. Cato, Sr. and brother Wayland H. Cato, Jr., founded Cato, a women’s retail apparel chain in 1946. Edgar was an avid sailor and world champion in 2005, winning the Chandler Hovey Memorial Trophy and the North American Championship in the Grand Prix class. He was also a pilot and enjoyed flying vintage airplanes.
