Seymore Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was gifted by Cathy Seymore ‘78 and Jeff Seymore in honor of their family and daughters Celeste Seymore ’13 and Gabrielle Seymore ’18. Celeste and Gabrielle followed in Cathy’s footsteps to study at the College, where Celeste earned a BA in Spanish and Gabrielle earned a BS in physics.
Dr. Cathy Seymore is a retired radiation oncologist. After graduating from CofC in 1978 with a degree in biology, Cathy completed medical school at MUSC and a residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Cathy served on the faculty at MUSC for several years and was a radiation oncologist in Rock Hill, SC, and Charlotte, NC, for many years.
Dr. Russell J. (Jeff) Seymore is a retired anesthesiologist who practiced pain management and hospice and palliative medicine. Jeff also completed medical school at MUSC, where he an Cathy met. He went on to served as a Navy flight surgeon and completed a residency at MUSC and a fellowship at Wake Forest University.
Cathy and Jeff have been generous annual donors to the college since 1987 and have supported the CofC Fund, Student Emergency Fund and the SSM Dean’s Excellence Fund. The naming of the Michael J. Auerbach Auditorium in the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences Building was made possible by a principled gift from Cathy and Jeff in 2022 in honor of their friends Emeritus Dean Mike Auerbach and Nitsa Auerbach.
