Frances Lee Willeford Carlisle '40 Scholarship
Frances Lee Willeford Carlisle was born on October 13, 1919 in Charlotte, N.C. Frances attended local schools and was first Honor Graduate Magna Cum Laude of the College of Charleston. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Phi Honor Society and a member of the College of Charleston Alumni Association. Following graduation, Frances taught fifth-grade English in Guayama, Puerto Rico for a year. In 1950, she joined S.C. Power Co and retired in 1983 as the Corporate Communications Assistant.
Frances devoted much of her life to community service in organizations such as the South Carolina Rose Society, the Charleston Country Heart Association, the Charleston County Cancer Society, the Board of the Charleston Civic Ballet, as Chaplain for the American Legion Auxiliary.
This scholarship is for a rising sophomore student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who exhibits financial need and is an active member of two campus organizations. The scholarship is renewable if GPA requirement is met each year.
